Brian Foster
1940-2013
Ahead of his time, Brian was always fascinated by the pure perfection between how art and science met through his exploration of fractal geometry. In 1979 he dove into the world of chaos theory and images of infinite space. Over the next 6 years his work developed into 3d spacescapes. Hand-coded files, ray tracing software, and his plotter became his paintbrush.
Brian's work investigates reality versus desire. As humans, we are endlessly striving to maintain an impossible notion of perfection. We are always looking outward fixated on an idealized perception of beauty. From where we stand the world appears volatile, dark and inhospitable. On the horizon, there is something even more tangible, magnetic, it is just beyond our grasp. Or at least we perceive it this way. There is transcendence in imperfection. All one has to do is look a little closer, further and deeper into disorder. There is order within chaos. Everything has its own unique perfection once we move through what seems impossible to reach the other side. Through awareness, we achieve what we desire most.
His art has been exhibited in Canada, Europe and Scandinavia. It is my greatest wish that his early contribution to fractal generated art is recognized and the remaining body of his work be enjoyed by a much wider audience than could be reached during his lifetime.
